  • HTGG Concert for Lancaster Firefighter Andre Kelley HTGG Concert for Lancaster Firefighter Andre Kelley
    Country music superstar John Michael Montgomery will perform a concert to benefit injured firefighter Andre Kelley and his family on April 28.  The Lancaster city fire bureau lieutenant was severely burned while trying to rescue a mother and her six year old daughter during a house fire.  Kelley is undergoing a series of skin grafting surgeries at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Delaware County, where he is expected to undergo treatment for several months. The performance will take place at the Lancaster Marriott Convention Center in Lancaster, PA at 2:00 PM on Sunday April 28.  More details soon.

    November, 21, 2012- The good folks at Hall Nissan in Virginia Beach fixed up a gently used car and were looking for a family in need around the holidays. Jean Mahon ran into Mickey Milam, founder of Help the Good Guys, and HTGG spokesperson and former American Idol star Bucky Covington in an airport. Help the Good Guys is a charity organization that comes to the aid of first reponders in need. It was a perfect match and this week one lucky family got a recycled ride and a concert from Covington.     November 10, 2012 - Several hundred people spent their Saturday morning at Chattanooga Fire Station 1 to attend a pancake breakfast fundraiser for a firefighter’s sick son. While firefighters cooked up hundreds of fresh pancakes, country singer and American Idol finalist Bucky Covington entertained the crowd outside. This event helped to raise money for Senior Firefighter Jason Greer, who is struggling to pay the bills while his son Tristin gets treatment in his battle against neuroblastoma. Help the Good Guys

Help the Good Guys is a nonprofit organization that provides financial support for injured fire fighters, police officers and their families.  HTGG sponsors music events and concerts which are organized and promoted through local fire fighter and police organizations.  HTGG provides a platform for fire fighters and police officers to aid and assist their brothers and sisters who are experiencing financial need due to work related illness, injury, or family crisis through fund raising activities.

When a firefighter or police officer is injured, their family suffers a devastating loss of income. Most cities and communities have limited funds to continue injured-on-duty pay. If a firefighter or police officer qualifies for long term disability, it is paid at a substantially lower rate than full salary (50-60%). Additionally, many firefighters and police officers work second jobs to supplement their income and this extra income is lost when an injury or illness occurs. With severe injuries/illnesses, the spouse often becomes a full time caregiver, further reducing the family’s income.

Thousands of first responders suffer duty related injuries or illness every year.  Many can eventually return to work, but some are permanently disabled with life altering conditions.  HTGG has helped to raise thousands of dollars to aid these fire fighters and their families.
